The PA Foundation – Smiling 4 Smiddy
The PA foundation is involved in a variety of events which help to generate and raise significant funds for medical research.
In September 2006, three men rode from Brisbane to Townsville to commemorate the life of physiotherapist, and keen triathlete, Adam Smiddy. Adam passed away in August 2006 from an aggressive cancer at age 26. The ride raised over $24,000 for cancer research at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Buoyed by this success, the bike ride has become an annual charity challenge covering 1600 kilometers in just 8 days.
The 2007 event took place from 15 - 22 September 2007 and included 21 riders and 6 support crew (one of whom rode
on several occasions). The ride in 2007 raised $192,645.00.
Movember
Movember is involved in raising funds for key male health issues including prostate cancer and male depression.
